Your Leadership Philosophy

When we talk about philosophy at The Gym, we don't mean Aristotle or Kant or Hume. What we mean is your way of thinking. This can be in relation to the world, the universe, or more specifically, your community.

This can be in the way you work with people, the way you don't work with people, and how others can work with you.

To begin, we ask the questions:

  1. What are your expectations of yourself?

  2. What are your expectations of others?

  3. How does that best come together in a way that helps us all to succeed?

Part of your responsibilities as a leader is to help others understand how your team can best work together. One of the best ways we know to do that is to help you (the leader) develop Your Leadership Philosophy.

While developing Your Leadership Philosophy takes some time, don’t get discouraged if this is your first crack at it. It might be rough to get started but that's okay. Find some quotes that resonate with you and then start working with them.

What do we mean when we say “work with them ?”

Practice saying them out loud. Take them on as your own. Trying them on and exploring them as you go forward. Your Leadership Philosophy is something that will evolve over time.

If you've been doing this work already, that's great! Hopefully, this will be an acceleration and a deeper dive into Your Leadership Philosophy. If this is new to you, take some time to think about it or reach out to us.

As you go forward and practice, you may feel that you hit some bumps or challenges along the way. That’s actually a good thing. This exercise is intended to help you work through these bumps and challenges so that you'll get clear on what you expect of yourself and others. Eventually, you'll get to a point where you can communicate Your Leadership Philosophy that is easily understood and accepted. This is when team culture really comes into play. That's when your team can get behind you, work with you, or out in front of you.

It's really important for you to start with Your Leadership Philosophy to be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and congruently with your team.

We’re here to help.
