What is your Purpose on the Playing Field?

What if you had a clear plan at the beginning of every meeting you attended? What if everyone at the table had a shared understanding of the outcome of the meeting before it even began? This may sound like a dream to you, but it doesn’t have to be! When you Level the Playing Field at the beginning of a conversation, you create a high-value and powerful opportunity for all participants.

Your three keywords in the Leveling the Playing Field (LPF) Framework are:

  1. Purpose

  2. Process

  3. Time

That’s it? That’s all I need to remember to reduce frustration in meetings?

YES! This will change your professional and personal life! Think about each of the keywords...what do they mean to you?

Purpose means we begin with the end in mind.

In other words, what is the desired outcome of this conversation or meeting? By establishing and stating the outcome at the beginning of the conversation, you have focused all participants’ attention to the task at hand. If any unrelated tangents come up, you can easily redirect everyone to the topic at hand.

For the next few days, pay attention to your interactions. Do you or others set a clear purpose at the beginning of conversations? If you are leading a meeting, begin with the Purpose. Do you see a better end result?
